Introduction to Zipper Mold

Zipper molds are selected for the component being formed and the machine used to produce it. Resin zipper teeth, stop components and sliders use different processes and tooling.

Resin zipper teeth are injection molded. Tooth molds and the molds used for closed-end stops or open-end pin-and-box components serve different operations. Review the resin zipper machinery for the process you need before selecting tooling.

In nylon zipper production, coils are formed from monofilament and sewn to tape. This is a different operation from molding resin teeth.

Slider and puller die casting commonly uses zinc alloy. This component-production process has different tooling requirements from slider mounting, which installs a complete slider onto a zipper.

Provide the component drawing or sample, zipper size, material, intended forming process and machine details. Confirm the mold dimensions, machine interfaces, required tolerances and acceptance criteria for that component. Mold material, surface treatment, maintenance requirements and expected service life need confirmation for the intended specification.
